About SBC

SBC was created in response to a lack of systems and services available to individuals who had complex behavioral needs. Individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities who also have mental health diagnoses (referred to as co-occurring diagnosis), find it hard to access adequate supports. Siloed systems, lack of trained professionals, lack of funding and lack of understanding present as barriers to comprehensive service delivery for this population.

SBC offers a unique educational experience for individuals, families, and professionals, by cultivating integrated partnerships to increase skill development, advocacy, and comprehensive service delivery.

SBC's Approach

SBC recognizes that an individual's presenting needs are a result of interconnecting factors within their life. It is critical that all compounding factors are assessed and considered in order to provide comprehensive supports. The biopsychosocial approach systematically considers biological, psychological, and social factors and their complex interactions in understanding health, illness, and health care delivery. This approach is reinforced throughout all the service delivered by SBC.

SBC uses a myriad of different interventions and modalities. SBC is intentional about customizing interventions and supports around the individual and prioritizing their desires and needs. Some interventions and approaches used include but are not limited to:

  • Person-centered approaches

  • Applied behavior analysis

  • Cognitive behavioral interventions

  • Trauma-informed practices
